Product Segmental Arches

Over 300 no structural brick faced precast segmental arches were supplied for this project.

All yellow stock arches were manufactured as rough gauged segmental arches. This term is used when the brick is left as its standard shape and the mortar joints are tapered to accommodate the radius. This feature matches similar detailing on surrounding warehouse buildings.

The red arches had individually tapered brick segments and feature 10mm recessed joints for pointing on site. On this project the pointing was carried out inside the building during periods of bad weather, when other brickwork couldn't be carried out.

Because the building was to be a car park, internal access was good and arches were installed from the inside using small fork lift trucks.

As can be seen from the photos most of the units were detailed with a recessed concrete end bearing to accommodate brickwork being built around the arch. The rear of the units also co-ordinated with surrounding blockwork and the floor slab above. All of the exposed faces were left as fair face concrete.
